On the 18th of July the Exclr8 Staff came together in support of Mandela Day to do their little bit to serve the community. This year we chose to support the A21 campaign for the tireless and selfless work they do in trying to put a stop to human trafficking both in South Africa and globally.
So what exactly is human trafficking and is it a real risk in today’s day and age? According to the A21 campaign, “human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, mainly for the purposes of forced labour and sex trafficking. As the world’s fastest growing criminal industry, it affects every nation across the globe. Every thirty seconds someone is forced into this type of bondage – modern slavery.”
The frightening reality is that 27 million people around the globe are currently in bondage as slaves, the highest figure than at any other point in human history. Scarier still is only 1 – 2% of victims are ever actually rescued.
Whilst we realise that as a company we may not be able to change the statistics surrounds human trafficking we are able in some small way to make a difference to the lives of those that have been rescued by the A21 campaign and arrive at their place of safety with nothing more than the clothes on their backs. For the women that are rescued, they desperately need toiletries and personal hygiene products. With this in mind Exclr8 set about putting together 67 personal hygiene care packs for the ladies, consisting of the essentials such as a toothbrush and toothpaste, facecloth, soap and deodorant. These packs will be stored at the Cape Town head office ready to be handed out as new victims are rescued.
We stand in awe of the work the A21 campaign does and we encourage other corporates to get involved and support this incredible initiative in whatever way they can.
